The Raymond and Waupun windmills were manufactured by the Althouse-Wheeler Company, of Waupun, Wisconsin, beginning in 1874-1875. In 1873, Albert and George Raymond moved from Chicago to Waupun, and soon formed the company with George Wheeler, Lucius Hinkley, and Milo Althouse. The company patented the vaneless pumping mills designed by Althouse years before, and the patent was assigned to him. In 1875, the company began producing Raymond’s design of a vaneless windmill, that eventually became a best seller in the windmill industry.
