This auction is for one genuine replacement aluminum HUB for the AIR-X or AIR Wind Generator by Southwest Windpower. Purchased new from Southwest (now Primus), this hub is guaranteed to fit your AIR-X generator and AIR-X blades - will maintain your warranty from Southwest.
Do not use other brands of hubs and/or blades since this will VOID your warranty!
For those of you building your own wind generator, this hub offers the ultimate in stiffness and lightweight design critical for optimal wind turbine operation. Simple flat-plate hubs being offered on eBay will flex slightly during use, over time this will lead to stress-fracture cracking of your hub and non-uniform loading on your main face bearing - leading to early turbine failure. Some designs try to overcome this by making the hub very thick or from high-strength steel, but this just ends up adding to the weight of the spinning assembly - leading to higher startup windspeed requirements to move that extra mass. This AIR-X hub is cast aluminum with webs and gussets for high stiffness at low mass. When used with AIR-X blades (check out my

), the root of the blade fits in the machined socket to prevent blade movement, and the locking nuts for the blades fit into special cutouts which prevent rotation of the nuts (see photo showing two locknuts, not included in this auction).
The hub outer diameter is 5 inches and contains the raised lip on the outer rim which the AIR-X nosecone snaps onto. The center hole is .625 diameter with a cutout on the front surface to hold (and prevent rotation of) a hexnut with 15/16 inch flat-flat width. There are locations for three blades, each with two .25 holes spaced at .78 inches. On the reverse of each hole is a socket to constrain a standard 1/4 locknut.
The bare hub weight is only 9.2 ounces.
NOTE: This is the bare aluminum hub meant for Land use, if you intend to use in Marine or Coastal locations please purchase the Marine version which is coated with grey epoxy paint for salt-corrosion resistance.
