    Description

FEATURED:  A flashback to the Woodstock era of the 1960's, when Peace and Love were the words used everywhere, and the Peace Symbol was the iconic sign splashed on everything, these super cool Mid Century Antioch Bookplate Co. PEACE SIGN bookplates, all 47 of them, are still in their original box, as fresh and ready to use as they were when printed many decades ago in Yellow Springs, Ohio at the Antioch printers.  This world-famous symbol, created in 1958 for the British Nuclear Disarmament Campaign by pacifist Gerald Holtom, was used at their famous march, and was formed from the naval flag semaphores for N and D, a deceptively simple design that is one of the more historic modern designs ever, is still used today world-wide, and adopted by Antioch as one of their bookplates and probably done during the late 1960's-70's when times were turbulent and people wanted to make a statement of protest against many things going on in America.  This set, with 47 plates still in the original box, all with their invisible, non-curling gum glue still useable, looking new, is a rare find and something that book lovers and American cultural history collectors will flip over, and perhaps use!  The box, also in mint condition, has a statement on its inside from Antioch about the company, which made most of the bookplates sold in the US for decades and is a famous company in its own right. In this day and age of the Kindle e-read, we know there are still many book lovers and collectors out there who will appreciate such a cool gem of a remembrance of a wild time in our country, and will value having these in their library or in their personal books.
MEASURES:  2 15/16 inches X 3 15/16 inches, in beautiful condition, every one of the 47 paper bookplates in this set, with their original box, printed on beautiful paper in Yellow Springs, Ohio in the Mid Century Protest era, and ready to use and enjoy today.  Bring back some memories with these, while adding to your library accessories collection, and get a taste of that groovy, fist-raised protest marches feeling again. Peace and love then, and Peace and love now.
