of Japanese rice paper. Perry Molstad wrote of this plate: "this plate is a play on the old legend of Lt. Herbert."
Perry Molstad was a prominent book collector who commissioned several plates by eminent designers like T.M. Cleland and Rockwell Kent. T.M. Cleland is best know as a book designer and illustrator. Offered here is his bookplate designed for Molstad with the usual "c" engraved lower right.
