This auction is for three genuine SILENT BLUE replacement blades for the Silent-X Wind Generator by Primus Windpower. Purchased new from Primus, these blades are guaranteed to fit your AIR-X generator - why take chances with the generic blades being offered on eBay lately? Using longer or wider blades on your AIR-X will increase the bearing load and WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY!
These blades are 22 3/16 inches long and are shipped in matched sets of three. Bolt spacing is the classic Southwest 2-hole pattern, 15/16" center-center for #10 bolts.
Replacement blades for the Primus Silent-X or upgrade blades for the AIR-X Marine. These are 2-hole blades which fit the classic AIR hub, if you want to use these on your BREEZE or AIR40 turbine (single-hole blades) you will need to replace the hub and nosecone as well.
Story of the BLUE blades...
Silent Power Blades ( SPB ) were designed by a German engineer as ultra-silent replacement turbine blades for the AIR-X wind generator, and are now produced and supplied as standard with the Silentwind brand of marine wind generator in Europe. Primus purchases these from the Portuguese manufacturer (Rulis) for their Silent-X model (basically the Marine AIR-X with blue blades). Precision engineering in carbon fiber and epoxy resin results in a remarkably stiff and light weight blade with an amazing 70% reduction in noise.
Wind tunnel tested
- The design process used wind tunnel testing and an in-depth study of aerodynamics, aero-acoustics and aerodynamic boundary layer design to achieve the lowest possible noise combined with optimized aerodynamics. High priority was a low resistance re-design of the wingtip, one of the main sources of noise.
Hand laminated Carbon fiber
- By using high–tensile carbon fiber and epoxy-resin in a special hand laminated manufacturing process, the blades are extremely stiff and very light, 150 grams (or less) compared to the 190 grams of the original blade, 20% lighter. The safety and effectiveness of the blades is the result of the hand-laminating process (1 blade/day) with high-tensile carbon fiber mats aligned axially - original AIR-X blades use injection molding which results in granulated carbon fibers. The massive increase in stiffness results in only one third of the flexibility of the original blade almost completely eliminating flutter and the associated noise. The high tensile carbon fiber mat used in construction makes the blades almost indestructible, they've been tested to DIN EN 61400-2 standards at hurricane speed 122km / h (5480 rpm, almost the speed of sound at the blade tips).
Almost Silent
- 70% less noise compared to the original Air-X-blades. This especially shows up in the frequency range between 1 and 12.5 kHz, that is most disturbing to human ears. When used with the Air-X the main source of noise is now the bearings inside the generator body, this is impossible to hear with the original blades.
Increased Power
- Wind tunnel testing has shown an increase in power output compared to the original blades of the Air-X especially in the wind range 7 to 11 m/s 4-5 Beaufort scale with as much as a 50% increase. The Air BREEZE did not show significant improvements in power output but the noise level is significantly reduced.
Compatibility
- Silent power blades are a direct replacement for the original blades of the Air-X, Air 403, Air30 and Silentwind. To use the Silent Power Blades with the Air BREEZE generator or the Air40 the original blade hub needs to be replaced with an Air-X hub. See my other auctions for the AIR-X hub and nosecone.
